A Serious Affection

There's something about collectibles made for the American market from the early 20th Century to 1975.  Things that go in the home, decorations, household items, even frilly things, I dig like in a blissed out love where there's that overflowing feeling of warmth that comes from some place far within.

There is a pack rat tendency on my mom's side of the family.  It's also continuity.  the loss for me in early life of moving to the States.  Items from a past that never existed for me creates a continuity and thread into American domestic history.  I liked old lady stuff from the beginning especially pottery and figurines.

My memory of that small period of existence is highly detailed and much of it is it still there pickled and aged four.

As a side note, blogging isn't really the best thing for writing - not trying to be ironic. Things that are good to great take time and digestion and distillation.  The thing with jack kerouac, it was probably much more pre-meditated than what ended up showing up on that very long scroll of paper.  Someone had to think of putting a scroll of paper together, taping the 8 1/2"x11", think of a road trip, think of ways of breaking away from a tradition and understanding that tradition in the first place... all that takes time.  The stream of consciousness into a classic is a great american myth.
