Renewable energy - Sources of biofuel input and output: Ethanol production from corn and soybeans aren't as efficient and green as one might hope. Net energy per hectare produced is very low. They only add a little bit of value and can only add a finite amount to the fuel supply.
Prairie grass net yields better results partly because 2/3 of the plant is underground. It can be a carbon negative input over its life cycle because of this. It is not monoculture based - doesn't require as much energy, fertilizer and pesticides and can be integrated into a natural habitat/system, be part of a prairie land ecosystem (somewhat polyculture). It does not compete with food supply.
Efficency of electric cars: Electric cars are five to six times more efficient than gas. It doesn't idle, has regenerative braking with multiple inputs (renewable) to create energy. The new electric hybrids will drive for 60 miles before gas kicks in.
